Do's & Don'ts for New Year’s on 30A

Dec. 27, 2018

It’s the most wonderful time of the year here on 30A. We love seeing friends and family come together to rejoice and relax during the holidays. South Walton is home to a plethora of entertainment for welcoming in the new year with your loved ones.

As a friendly reminder, it is important to know the laws and regulations surrounding New Year’s festivities, especially if you’re visiting us from out of town (since laws can vary from state to state). For your safety concerns, we have compiled a few Do’s and Don’ts for New Year’s on 30A.

Do have a bonfire on the beach

Bonfires are legal in South Walton but require a permit. Make sure to plan ahead for a beach bonfire by clicking here for the details.

Don’t bring your dog onto the beach

Unless you’re a resident with a permit, dogs are not allowed on Walton County beaches. Sorry, dog-lovers!

Do go surfing

Surf’s up on 30A! Make sure to follow the South Walton County Beach Flag System when planning a surfing session. Current tide conditions are posted here daily for your safety and convenience. You can also text SAFETY to 31279 to get up-to-date alerts on your cell.

Don’t use exploding fireworks

Under Florida law, it is illegal to use most fireworks, which include: shells and mortars, multiple tube devices, Roman candles, rockets and firecrackers. Essentially, any fireworks that explode or fly up are off limits. At least sparklers are a safe bet! For more info, click here.

Do watch free fireworks shows

No need to fret - 30A can’t disappoint our lovely guests! Licensed professionals will be hosting free fireworks shows throughout Walton County for New Year’s. Here’s a list of spots with the best night sky views on New Year’s Eve: Rosemary Beach, Alys Beach, Watercolor, and Pier Park.

Don’t set up camp on the beach

Sleeping overnight on the beach is prohibited. Thank goodness for our cozy cottages - you don’t have to worry about it!

Do take a hike

There’s nothing like spending time in the great outdoors. Going on a hike for New Year’s is a wonderful way to bond with the ones you love. Check out this awesome list of State Parks and Forests in the South Walton area.

Don’t leave a trace

30A is proud of our scenic beach paradise and caring for our environment is something we take very seriously. Out of respect for mother nature, always remember to clean up after yourself.

Do go fishing

Enjoy a day of catching fish on the gulf! All you need is a fishing license, which you can obtain via phone or online. Click here for more info.

As you can see, 30A is the perfect holiday getaway. If you’re visiting us from up North, we can only imagine how badly you’re in need of some sun. Take a rain check on winter and hideaway in one of our serene cottages for the season. It’s a safe and fun way to close out the year with a bang - all while keeping warm too!
